ABOUT US

The Parish was originally served by Saint Anne's, in Alcester Street, in the centre of Birmingham, as part of a city-mission dating from 1859. The current church was built in 1896 and dedicated to St John the Evangelist. In 1903, the church became fully independent from St. Anne's and in 1911, the school was built.

From the 1940's to the 1960's, the congregation grew rapidly and extensive work was done in 1962-1963 to expand the church's capacity. A new Parish of Saint Martin de Porres was also established in 1967, as the congregation continued to expand. At about this time the first school of Saint John's was re-situated in Chantry Road, where it still stands today.

Once more the Parish has a missionary dimension: it welcomes asylum seekers and students from other lands, whilst still serving a loyal and active community, young and old - sharing the love of God.
